Point of Service
Plan
Many
HMO's offer an indemnity-type option known as a Point of Service plan
(POS plan).
Choice:
A POS plan requires a primary care physician to make referrals
to other providers in the plan. However, members can refer themselves
to outside providers and still have coverage.
Costs:
Under a Point-of-Service plan if the care physician makes
the referral all costs are covered. If a policyholder refers himself or
herself they are responsible for the co-payments.
