TIPS

- As the policyholder
you have the right to ask questions and have them answered
- You have a right
to receive a second opinion from your insurance company when services
are denied.
- If you begin to
feel discouraged, locate an advocate to assist you. See the advocacy
list in the resource section of this booklet.
- Should you be denied
a specific service, treatment, or medication, it contact the customer
service department of your insurance company and ask for a detailed,
written explanation. If this is unsatisfactory, you may ask to speak
to a supervisor or someone in the organization who can make decisions.
Using
the advocacy checklist at the end of this booklet will help to ensure
that your rights are respected. (Advocacy checklist from AARP/eldercare
website.)
