Our Advertising Policy
Effective Oct 27, 2026
AgingInPlace.org is free to use because the companies we write about pay us in some cases. This page explains how, and how we keep it from changing what we recommend.
How we make money
| How | When we're paid |
|---|---|
| Affiliate links | When you click a link to a company's site and, in some cases, buy something. Links that pay us are marked as sponsored. |
| Referrals | When you submit a form and we send your request to the company named on it |
| Calls | When you call a company through a phone number on our site and the call meets the company's criteria, such as a minimum length |
| Amazon Associates | As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases |
We aren't paid for links to companies we have no agreement with. Using our links or forms doesn't add anything to the price you pay. Sometimes a partner gives us a promo link or code for our readers, and we'll say so where it applies.
How we keep our reviews independent
- Separate teams: our editorial team doesn't negotiate or manage partner agreements, and partners can't review, edit or approve our content before it's published.
- Published method: every product is scored on the same four factors (company reputation, product quality and features, customer support, and cost and transparency), described in Behind Our Ratings.
- Medical review: health-related content is reviewed by a licensed clinician before it's published.
- We name the downsides: every review lists cons, and we tell readers which brands to avoid and why.
What partnerships can affect: which companies we can send requests or calls to, and the order of products on some comparison pages and landing pages. Where placement on a page is affected by compensation, we say so on that page.
Landing pages and ads
Some pages are built for people arriving from ads on social media or search. They may feature a single company and will say so. They carry the same disclosure at the top of the page and follow the same rules on claims and pricing as our reviews.
Disclosures you'll see
- A short disclosure near the top of every page with paid links or forms
- "Sponsored" labels on paid links
- On forms, the name of the company your request goes to
